About Mountain Lodge No. 99
Mountain Lodge No. 99 is a lodge of Ancient Free & Accepted Masons located in Frostburg, Maryland. We are the oldest continuously existing lodge in Allegany County, operating under a charter issued by the Grand Lodge of Maryland in 1854.
We confer the three degrees of Masonry – Entered Apprentice, Fellowcraft, and Master Mason - on men who have petitioned and been accepted to join our lodge. See the About Freemasonry section for more about Freemasonry in general.
We value education and moral and personal growth. Through the application of our teachings and our trust in the Supreme Architect of the Universe, we strive to improve ourselves morally and personally in our daily lives. During our meetings, we consider our teachings and learn how they can help us become better men.
In addition, we hold roast beef dinners, as a small fundraiser, which are open to non-masonic friends and visitors, during the months of September through May. These dinners consist of a delicious meal that can be enjoyed either in our dining hall, or can be boxed for carryout.
You might see us occasionally participating in more public and charitable activities - walking in parades, presenting scholarship awards, or participating in the Maryland CHIP program. You might also see us carrying out our more solemn duties, such as participating in a Masonic Memorial Service for a brother who has departed this world, which ceremony is publicly performed, often in a funeral parlor.
Our lodge meets every second and fourth Thursday, September through May at 7:30 p.m. We typically do not hold regular meetings during the months of June, July, and August, though there are sometimes exceptions to this practice.
Mountain Lodge No. 99 has been the Masonic Lodge in Frostburg, Maryland, since 1854. Our lodge building is located in Braddock Estates (See the Contact Us page for more). Prior to the erection of our beautiful present lodge building in the late 1970’s, our lodge met in an upper room at 76 East Main Street in Frostburg, where the lodge met as far back as 1923. Before that, the lodge met on the third floor of the Frostburg National Bank building, after several decades of meeting in various rented halls and other locations in the Frostburg area.
As this website develops further, we hope to offer a complete history of Mountain Lodge No. 99.
If you are interested in becoming a Freemason, or interested in our lodge, contact us. We would be happy to talk with you about our fraternity, and to discuss the process of joining and the qualifications for membership. We are an active lodge, we perform degree work regularly, and we welcome good men who are desirous of becoming Freemasons.
If you are a Mason in good standing who is looking for a lodge home or a lodge to visit, please contact us or visit us in person during a meeting or a lodge function.
